A few weeks ago I finally got the privilege to eat at Great Lakes Pizzeria. I had been hearing for months that the real Chicago style pizza was in Andersonville, I just clearly had not come across it yet! After reading the Yelp reviews, I grabbed a bottle of wine (yes, it’s BYOB) and met my friend for dinner! Let me start off by saying that this is a small establishment. We are talking 3 tables total, one of them can hold about 8 and the rest are two-seaters. We luckily got there when a table available because they do not take reservations. The menu is small but I felt that we still had plenty of options. All ingredients are local and organically raised or grown. The thin crust pizza is crafted with organic unbleached wheat flour and none of the meat/dairy comes from factory farms. All of the farms that they source through are listed on the menu, so you know exactly where everything you are eating comes from. The pizza is made to order, it does take about 30 minutes to cook, but we got their special appetizer and just enjoyed our wine. We ordered the #1, tomato sauce, Dante lamb cheese and fresh herbs, which I highly recommend. I think we managed to eat the entire pizza between the two of us!
I truly enjoyed my evening at this family owned business and will definitely be going back soon to eat the real Chicago pizza!
