How to hang a Wedding Blanket as a Headboard!

We have been asked numerous times, ‘How do I hang a wedding blanket on the wall?’.  I had an idea but the biggest obstacle, for me, was how do I attach fabric or anything really to the back of the blanket without ruining such a beautiful piece of art.  Now I can’t sew on a button to save my life, so I knew I was going to need to find someone who could help me out!  I stopped in my local dry cleaner (who also does alterations) and she told me ‘anything is possible, dear’, so obviously I trusted her with this little project.  I told her I planned to hang this blanket on the wall with a rod. She said she would sew on a piece of scrap fabric on the back that the rod could slide into and that she would use invisible thread to attached it so you could not see anything in the front. It turned out perfectly!

As far as the rod goes, you can go to Target and get the most basic curtain rod, that will do the trick.  I had my friend Erik help me hang the rod, I’m not so good with the power drill. Thanks for your help Erik, turned out beautifully!

Materials: Wedding blanket, curtain rod kit, & a power drill
Materials Needed: Wedding blanket, curtain rod kit, & a power drill
Take your wedding blanket to a seamstress or a dry cleaners that does in-house alterations. Ask them to sew on a 2.5” piece of fabric to the back using their invisible thread, you don’t want to see the stitching on the front. This should cost around $40 to have done.
Nailing in the stud.

Before nailing in the other side, make sure it is level! No one wants  an uneven headboard:)
Done!!!  It make the perfect statement. You can use wedding blankets for headboard, wall hangings, backdrops, etc.

Dressing for Holiday Parties!

Dressing for holiday parties can be stressful.  What outfit do I wear?  How should I dress for the weather?  Can I mix fancy with casual?  Fear not, we have put together the perfect holiday outfit for this season by using a fun and fancy dress but mixing it with casual boots and accessories.

Casual leather boots, gold bangles, tights (to keep warm) and Maven Collection’s olive clutch

ssThe Dress

We went for a neutral dress that had gorgeous embellishments on the top
We love how Maven Collection’s Olive Clutch works perfectly with the dress and accessories.  This clutch is perfect for a party.  It is large enough to hold all of your “must have”  items but small enough to tuck under your arm.
Instead of using a winter coat, we suggest grabbing a long chunky sweater coat to put over the dress to keep warm.

NEW RELEASE: Introducing our ‘Biker Chick’ bag

It all started when my car officially died on the highway. It was a terrible day to say the least. So, I found myself bike bound with no plans to get a car in the near feature. If I was going to bike around, I obviously had to have a stylish bag to sport! A VERY MAVEN HOLIDAY || Holidays Around The World

With Hanukkah only a week away and Christmas just around the corner, we decided we wanted to share some traditions from a few of our artisan countries! Of course, this is just a snippet of each country’s traditions, but it’s so interesting to learn how similar and different they all are from our own!

A very Catholic country in Central America, the Christmas celebration begins nine days before the holiday, with fireworks, drums, and carols. These serve as an accompaniment for the deliverance of Mary and Joseph to their nacimiento (manger, respectively) at House #1. Each night, a new house receives the figures and hosts a joyous party, until baby Jesus joins the Holy Family at the last house on Christmas Eve. On that final night, the largest party is held! This is followed by Midnight Mass and a full dinner for all. Children then open up their presents they find under their tree on Christmas morning! Adults do not exchange until New Year’s Day. (Source)

A primarily Muslim country, Christmas is not nationally recognized holidays, however there are Christians in the area who participate in the celebration. Those who do celebrate refer to Santa Claus as “Père Noël” (Father Christmas, respectively), and Christmas decorations and trees are fairly easy to find. (Source). Hanukkah is also celebrated, as there are Jewish roots in Morocco. While the meaning of the holiday is the same, the details are a bit different, with mint tea, beignets, and couscous on the menu! (Source)

Christmas Day, known as Noël, is widely celebrated in France. Each province celebrates a little differently, including additional dates of observance, like la fête de Saint Nicolas (children get gifts in their shoes!), la fête des Rois (what we know as Epiphany), and la fête de lumières (lighting candles to pay respect to Virgin Mary). Traditional desserts include a Yule log cake, a Christmas loaf which is given to a poor person, and a Kings’ Cake. (Source)

We would love to hear about your holiday traditions!!

Last month we did a style shoot with one of our favorite Chicago Stylists and fashion show guru, Savvy Souk. We always have such blast with her, so we asked her to pair an outfit with our bowler bag. Typically, these bags make for the perfect overnight or weekend bag. You can fit A TON of stuff in there AND they have a zipper, so perfect for any travel plans!  However, with winter approaching, we tend to carry more stuff with us so I think they make for a great everyday  bag. You can pack a laptop, clutch, scarf, mittens, keys, book ( honestly anything really) and look fabulous toting it around your city with you!

We love how Souk played off the studs on our black bowler and wore a kitten heel with a metallic toe and a blouse that has metallic studs! So cute!  Since it’s winter, you can get away with a whole black ensemble, maybe add a textured piece like Souk did with her faux fur vest!  She looks fabulously chic and the bowler just completes her outfit! Check it out!

Our bowler bag was made by Rachid in Marrakech, Morocco.  He runs 2 small workshops and a retail space on the outskirts of the Marrakech Medina.  He employs over 12 leather artisans, including pattern makers, tailors, and leather dyers.  He began learning the trade at the age of 16, after finishing high school, and apprenticed with three different master leather workers before opening his own workshop five years later.  He has an eye for combining Western design with Moroccan craftsmanship and reads Elle and Marie Claire to come up with new designs.

ps, we are getting an oxford red bowler in for the holidays:) stay tuned!

FOLDOVER CLUTCHES || 3 ways to style

Our Moroccan leather fold over clutches are one of our favorite everyday pieces! Super easy to transition, you can take them everywhere from your morning meeting, to lunch with your BFF, to a night on the town…. The opportunities with these little bags are endless!  (Not to mention, they make perfect gifts for all the women in your life!) We asked our stylist, Savvy Souk, to help us with some looks and here is what she came up with!

The ‘Little Olive’ Leather Fold Over Clutch is great for the girl-on-the-go! Accessorize with jeans, a fab Fall jacket or blazer, and some knee-high leather boots!
