After spending 15 years in various retail outlets, designer Stacey Fraser set out to create a casual, but playful line for little girls and their moms. This line was born in 2006, and adorably named Pink Chicken. Featuring gorgeous Indian embroidery, block prints, and tie dye in her collections, the stunning children’s and women’s line soon became available to tween girls, too – now reaching every age in the market.
I was first introduced to New York-based Pink Chicken in 2011 while working in a high-end specialty children’s wear boutique. I was, and still am, impressed by their fantastic prints and great quality!
Here are some of my faves from Spring/Summer 2013:
I first heard about Best Made Company from my sister, as we are always looking for anything related to finding our dream mountain man. As I read their story, I felt so compelled to share this amazing brand with you! Best Made Company is based out of New Work, where founder, Peter Buchanan-Smith, “saw the need for a better axe: an evocative tool that played an indispensable role in his life working on cattle farms and paddling and portaging the lakes of Northern Canada. Peter knew that a well made axe — the oldest and most invaluable tool known to mankind — could not only function as a lifeline in the wilderness, but at home it could be a magnificent window into the wilderness and inspire people to reconnect with their hands, craft, and nature.” After perfecting their version of a perfect axe, they have become a lifestyle brand with clothing, home goods, and other tools. They pride themselves in living by four critical virtues: Courage, Compassion, Grace and Fortitude (aka The Famous Four). Each virtue is embodied by and emblazoned on their axes, which they hope will inspire others.
One of their most recent projects is a partnership with It Gets Better Project, which inspires hope for LGBT kids who are facing bullying and other forms of harassment. With the purchase of each Fortitude axe, they are donating proceeds to It Gets Better Project. We were so touched by this and felt the need to share.
So for those of you who are looking for a last minute gift for the lovely man/men in your life, I urge you to look at Best Made Company! I posted a few of my favorite items below!
